The Voice On The Other Side

Name: Christine M.

How long have you worked for Lands’ End and when did you start?

20 years! I started in September of 1993.

Current job at Lands’ End:

Customer Care Specialist.

Previous jobs/careers:

I have also worked with Lands’ End in Customer Sales training for over 10 years, was involved with the ACE project, served 2 terms as wellness ambassador, job shared in scheduling, and answered the assist line for many years.

Where do you live and how long have you lived there?

I have lived in Wisconsin for over 30 years.  Out of college I worked as Project Coordinator for CESA 03 (Cooperative Educational Service Agency) Statewide Computer Project (in the floppy disc era) and as office manager for a vocational training center.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from a lovely small village in Northern Illinois, Mt. Morris.

What brought you to Lands’ End?

I came to Lands’ End the year after they opened the Reedsburg, WI facility. My children had reached school age and I was ready to try my hand at something new.

What do you like most about your job or the company?

Job flexibility has been my favorite aspect of working at Lands’ End.  It has allowed me to balance my work and home life through the years.  I have always been impressed and proud to work by Gary Comer’s Principles of Doing Business.

What’s the most unusual customer question or request you’ve ever received?

I’m drawing a blank there.   But once in a while when I ask the customer “what credit card would you like to use today,” the customer says “yours.” That always gives me a chuckle.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to hike, read and listen to smooth jazz.  Time with friends and family is also high on my list.

What’s your favorite Lands’ End memory or anecdote?

A funny anecdote is that in my first year at Lands’ End, I remember dunking the CEO (Bill End) twice at the company picnic.  I decided NOT to throw the 3rd ball. I also enjoyed training sales reps through the years and then being a fellow team member with them later.

Favorite place to go for vacation:

I like to go somewhere scenic and/or exciting on vacation. Two favorite memories are standing on the Great Wall of China and zooming down Splash Mountain at Disney World.

Who’s your hero?

My husband champions the handicapped, the elderly and the oppressed. He does this in a quiet way because he does not seek attention or recognition but he believes it is the right thing to do.  He truly cares. He is my hero!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be or do when you grew up?

I always thought I would be a poet or some type of writer.

If you could do it all over again, what if anything would you do differently?

I feel that my life has been shaped by all the choices and challenges along the way so I wouldn’t change.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom you’d like to share?

I’ve learned that a fresh perspective is often the key to continuing to move forward.

Who’s the most famous person you know or have ever met?

I once had lunch with Mr. Comer! I have also met Lucy Swindoll who is an awesome inspirational speaker and author.

What item of Lands’ End clothing in your closet is your favorite, and why?

I have a Fine Gauge twin set that is my “go-to” set.  It is a great coral color and the cardigan has a specialty design from the holidays many years back, but I pull it out again and again. It’s very versatile!

Anything else to add?

I have liked working as part of a team. There are many talented, resourceful people at Lands’ End who are also fun to work with. Working together lightens the load. Thanks to the team for all the support and encouragement along the way!
