The Voice on the Other End

Name: Margaret S.

How long have you worked for Lands’ End and when did you start?

I have been at Lands’ End for 30 years… started in 1983.

Current job at Lands’ End:

Customer Service

Previous jobs/careers:

In high school, I worked at a nursing home for two years. I’ve also farmed, worked at a grocery store and, for one Christmas season, I worked at UPS.

Where do you live and how long have you lived there?

I have lived in the area all my life.

What brought you to Lands’ End?

Well, Christmas was coming up, I needed extra money and Lands’ End was hiring. I liked it so much that I am still here today.

What do you like most about your job or the company?

I really like the variety of the calls – and of the job.

What’s the most unusual customer question or request you’ve ever received?

I have been here for so long that the unusual becomes the usual. However, I can say that when the moon is full, it does bring in some interesting calls.

What do you like to do in your free time?

My favorite is seeing my grandchildren, but I also like movies, reading and spending time outside.

What’s your favorite Lands’ End memory or anecdote?

Every year I have a personal calendar made up with pictures of family, and vacations. When I am having a rough day or feeling down, I look at the pictures and smile.

Favorite place to go for vacation:

My daughter and her husband are in the military (Marines) in North Carolina. They only live 20 miles from the ocean.

Who’s your hero?

My parents. They are always there to pick you up when you are down or share with the good times.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be or do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a veterinarian, but it didn’t take me long to find out the sight of blood or wounds made me queasy.

If you could do it all over again, what if anything would you do differently?

It’s hard to say I would do any thing different, because that could mean that it could change where I am today, not just for myself, but for my family also. I like were I am today.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom you’d like to share?

If someone seems too upset with you, don’t take it personally. More than likely they are upset about something else.

Who’s the most famous person you know or have ever met?

Green Bay Packer Donald Driver. It was at work and he was in the building and stopped by my desk to talk with me.

What item of Lands’ End clothing in your closet is your favorite, and why?

Our Fine Gauge Sweaters can be dressed up or down and always look great.
